Materials Specific Details
One original score with original preface. One published copy of "I'd Rather Be in Philadelphia" in 'Pete Rose: I'd Rather Be in Philadelphia, for alto recorder,' 1994. "I'd Rather Be in Philadelphia" was commissioned by California recorderist Judith Linsenberg in 1992. The piece documents Judith's visit with Pete Rose in Philadelphia. There are three movements Optometrist, Shoe Store, and Lunch that follow what they did during the day. Written for an alto recorder. Various songs can be found within the work, including "Them There Eyes," "Tea for Two," and American folk song "Old Joe Clark." The title comes from W. C. Fields 1930's motion picture where he humorously uses the quote.
