Materials Specific Details
One original score with preface, program notes, and performance instructions. Two copies of score with preface, program notes, and performance instructions. One published copy of "Waiting for a Bus" in 'Pete Rose: Waiting for a Bus, Three Fantasies for Recorder Quintet,' 1996. The original name of the piece was "Guillaum" but later changed by the publisher to "Waiting for a Bus," for the sake of consistency it will be referenced as "Waiting for a Bus in the description. "Waiting for a Bus" was commissioned by David Barnett in 1994. The piece fuses material from the music of Guilaum de Machaut and Guillam Dufay with world music and elements of jazz. Fantasy #1-This part is an imagined meeting of Guillaum Dufay, Guillam de Machaut, and Pete Rose in the modern era. Dufay and Machaut are 14th and 15th century composers. What follows is an interesting combination of the classical works of the composers intertwined with Rose's modern avant garde style of play. Fantasy #2-Machaut and Dufay decide to return to their respective times. Unfortunately they have to take a time traveling train/bus and stop at Port Authority Terminal in New York City. This movement depicts what they see and feel there as outsiders in society. The movement ends with a jazzy "Billy Boy," referencing the nickname for William, the English equivalent for Guillaum. Fantasy #3-The finale is what Rose imagines Dufay and Machaut would write as a new work for the modern era.
