Materials Specific Details

One orginal score with preface, special notations, and performance instructions. Two copies of score, preface, special notations, and performance instructions. One published copy of "Nice Folks" in 'Pete Rose: Nice Folks, for recorder and guitar,' 2000. The piece was completed in 1997 and is dedicated to the six recorder players that commissioned it: Aldo Abreu, David Barnett, David Bellugi, Vicki Boeckman, Clea Galhano, and John Tyson. Alto, tenor, and soprano recrorders are required. All three movements are based on folk songs due to the recorder/guitar combination. She's Like the Swallow- the first movement is based on a melody from Newfoundland. The guitar music draws inspiration from the sound of the inanga, a traditional instrument from central east Africa. Sui Sin Fa (Narcissus in Cantonese)- transforms a simple Chinese pentatonic melody into a Brazilian Bossa Nova. The movement relies heavily on improvisation. Down the Ohio- inspired by the American riverboat song. In this movement the guitarist uses his instrument as a makeshift drum.
