Materials Specific Details

One original score with preface, improvisation instructions, special notations, and staging. One copy of score, preface, improvisation instructions, special notations, and staging. Commissioned by the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet in 2002. The work follows the Bebop style. Rose viewed Bebop as a paradox of being "brilliant and intensely creative" while simultaneously being "quite narrow in its expressive scope." "Moondust" is an attempt to illustrate this paradox. All of the sections are based on the chord progression of "How High the Moon" a popular song amongst bebop musicians of the 1940's. The first section is longer with the intent of bringing the audience to inattention. Following this introduction the audience will be pleased with the middle section. The finale will be very exciting from a musical and performance perspective. "Moondust" requires tenor, bass, alto, and soprano recorders.
