Materials Specific Details

One original score with preface. One copy of score and preface. Commissioned by the Recorder Orchestra of New York (RONY) in 2004. The orchestra is an ecclectic group of individuals from various backgrounds. This inspired Rose to write a story of an average person. The three movements are titled "Morning Overture," "Mid-day Toil," and "Evening Celebration." In the opening movement the theme follows that of digital alarm clocks and news radio stations. Following this there is a waltz section leading into a fox trot, intended to capture waking up and the commute to work. "Mid-day Toil" is in a jazz-rock fusion. There is an attempt in this section to demonstrate the moods felt throughout the workday. In the final movement elements of a medieval stampie and blues/jazz can be found. Attempting to capture conflict all players will abdandon their recorders for percussion instruments, this is NOT optional. The entire piece is intended for two soprano, alto, and tenor recorders. Along with a bass and great bassrecorder.
